The European Language Classroom - issues in language teaching for teachers and trainers across Europe. This series addresses issues that concern language teachers in both state schools and private education. The aims are to bridge the gap between current language teaching theories and classroom practice, and to benefit from sharing the expertise of foreign-language teachers who speak their pupils' mother tongue. OPEN FRONTIERS - Teaching English in an intercultural context. Mutual understanding and respect require sensitivity to other cultures. This is as necessary to effective communication as a knowledge of the target language. Teachers therefore need to raise their students' awareness of other cultures.
